We talk a lot about the innovative workflow systems and software that enable Laddawn’s unparalleled customer experience. Of course, no business can deliver exceptional value without great people, too. For decades, Laddawn’s manufacturing and warehousing has boasted an exceptional workforce.
In 2020, however, even as unemployment rolls swelled nationwide, we struggled to fully staff. We weren’t alone. Concerns about personal safety, remote learning, child and elder care have made people reluctant to reenter their workplaces. It is certainly understandable.
As with most U.S. manufacturers, staffing losses hurt our ability to meet demand in 2020. It constrained our ability to keep pace with an unexpectedly robust economic rebound. Thanks to extensive inventories in 5 locations, we’ve maintained very high stock order fill rates. However, custom order lead times and production delays reached decidedly un-Laddawn-like service levels.
Being part of Berry Global has helped. We are moving down a path to full recovery, faster. Heavy investment in Laddawn manufacturing continues. New extrusion lines in Manchester and Sterling were commissioned just last month, while a new line in Dallas is slated to go live in February. You’ll even find some Laddawn items being run by our colleagues in Berry’s Mountaintop, Pennsylvania and Des Moines, Iowa, facilities. It is remarkable, really.
Through it all, we will continue working to help you plan around supply uncertainties. We have leveraged our network of manufacturing facilities to adjust on the fly. You’ve been patient and gracious. In fact, sales through the end of the year reached record levels. Thank you.
As we enter 2021, we’re beginning to return to the custom order service levels you have come to expect from Laddawn. Staffing is improving due in no small part to help from the Berry Human Resources organization. Over the next weeks, you can expect lead times to begin to recede as we reclaim our unique space in the market for industrial packaging.
On behalf of all of us in Atlanta, Dallas, Devens, Manchester, Sparks and Sterling, here’s to a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.
